The Monmouthshire Decorative & Fine Arts Society - founded in 2002 - is a member society of the National Association of Decorative & Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS). The centre of our activities is Abergavenny.

Our objects are the promotion and advancement of the aesthetic education of the public, the cultivation, appreciation and study of the decorative and fine arts, and the giving of aid to the preservation of our national heritage for the benefit of the public.

We fulfill our objectives by:

(a) the arrangement of Lectures for Members of the Society.

(b) the arrangement of Days of Special Interest, occasional Overseas trips, Outings and visits to private houses, museums, exhibitions and other places of interest for members of the Society.

(c) the arrangement of related activities of an Educational character for children and other members of the public.

(d) the arrangement of voluntary Preservation and Recording work by its members in relation to the decorative and fine arts.

Membership is open to any adult, but numbers are restriced for practical purposes.

The National Association (NADFAS) - to whom we are affiliated - provides MDFAS with its overarching structure, advice, guidance, training, insurance and - most importantly - its list of approved lecturers. Part of the membership fees is paid to NDFAS to fund these services.

We are managed by an annually elected Committee, who are always willing to hear suggestions to improve the activities of the Society..

Our logo - the Double Dragon - represents Monmouthshire's position as a Marcher county, seeking inspiration from the cultures of both Wales and England. The logo, which is used with permission, belongs to the Felinfoel Brewery in Llanelli, who produce Double Dragon - The National Ale of Wales!
