Alison Cooper is responsible for the information on this Page.

The Youth Arts programme - which is nurtured and supported by MDFAS funds - allows the connection between local schools and local artists or others with associated skills. The objective is to engender enthusiasm for arts and crafts amongst the school children. The school provides the materials, the artist provides his/her time and MDFAS pays travel expenses & an honorarium of £25 per hour to the Artist

Osbaston Primary School - Printing workshop on topic of ‘Dreamscapes’ with Adrian Higgins.
Gilwern Primary School - Printing workshop making collograph plates to print on to calico on the topic ‘India’ for a banner to hang in the school hall with Adrian Higgins.
King Henry VIII School Abergavenny: For the third year a two-day Bookbinding workshop was held with A-Level Students with Kevin Karney.

Castle Park Primary, CaldicotPainting workshop in two parts: firstly, studying Kyffin Williams with Alison Cooper and, the second afternoon, a watercolour workshop studying wild flowers collected on woodland walk

Deri View Primary, Abergavenny - Commemorating the School's membership of the European Comenius Partnership. MDFAS Youth Arts sponsored artist, Susie Strange, helped pupils to make a tiled mosaic representing the Partnership and link between different countries.

The tiles for the project were very kindly donated by Paul Morgan of Blissful Bathrooms, Abergavenny.

Govilon - During the last few weeks of the summer term Adrian Higgins gave a printing workshop to the whole school. Sadly, the school had just received confirmation that it was to close at the end of the year. So instead of pictures to hang on the school wall, the students had a lovely, artistic print to take home and to remind then of their school days in Govilon

Monmouth Comprehensive: Kevin Karney gave a Bookbinding course to help A-Level students present their course work in a more attractive mode
King Henry VIII School, Abergavenny:  Kevin Karney gave a Bookbinding course to help A-Level students present their course work in a more attractive mode. The photographs show some of the A/AS Level Coursework. One student used a recent visit to Venice as his inspiration, using marbling and other techniques for his design
Pembroke Primary: Angie Sayer gave a clay workshop on the Owl and the Pussycat to the 7 – 8 year olds.   The class painted pictures first of all and then modelled their pictures in clay.  The photographs show their work and their models as they went off to be fired.   The pieces will then be painted on return
Raglan Primary: Angie Sayer gave a clay workshop on Picasso.   The pupils were shown slides of Picasso ceramic pieces and then made their own designs in his style using quick drying clay
Goytre Fawr Primary: Antonia Spowers gave collage workshops on ‘Water’ to classes of different ages, using wools, shiny paper etc as well as paint to create and study different effects

Usk Primary Arts Festival: Alison Cooper gave botanical painting workshops to different age groups during the Arts Festival.   They studied meadow flowers and created large collages with their pieces and learned to use different techniques such as masking out and very fine brushwork.

King Henry VIII School: Adrian Higgins gave a printing workshop to the Lower Sixth Art students on how to  create templates by building up designs with textured paper and then to print using different coloured inks.   They also learned how to make templates from polystyrene tiles using indentation techniques to create different effects.   He then showed them how an artist would number and sign his prints.
Chepstow Comprehensive: Judith Lowery, Head of Art, invited the 25 summer term leavers of Dell Primary, Chepstow’s feeder school, to spend a taster-day in the Art Department at Chepstow creating a mosaic mural on the topic of Gaudi.   Susie Strange came in to help lead the project
Cantref  Arts Week: Alison Cooper gave a botanical painting workshop during the Art Festival week at Cantref to Year 5, the 9-10 year olds. They studied leaves, painted them learning watercolour techniques and printing to create different effects
Osbaston School, Monmouth: Adrian Higgins gave a printmaking workshop to the 10-11 year olds. Photographs show Adrian during the project and his printer.
