CHURCH RECORDING
Jane Stone is responsible for the information on this Page.

We started recording at St. Mary's Priory Church in Monmouth in February 2007 at the request of the church. It is a large Victorian building with a great deal of things to record. We were all raw recruits and so it has been a huge learning curve, albeit on the whole, pleasureable and we have had a lot of fun. We have now practically finished the recording and have started the long and difficult process of compiling our report.... NADFAS have very strict guidelines!

Meanwhile we are starting to record a much smaller church!! St. Bartholomew's at Llanover. We would be delighted to welcome new recruits!

If you would like to contribute, please come to the church and introduce yourself to Jane Stone.

Working as a pair, but part of a larger team, we will record details & history on different aspects of the church's furnishings: memorials, metalwork, stonework, woodwork, textiles, paintings, library, windows and miscellaneous.

Training is given by experienced recorders and help is available from a wide range of experts.

It takes about three years to complete a church record and the sense of achievement when the finished volume is presented is matched by the delight with which it is received.

Copies of the final report are lodged with:
the Church
• the diocesan or other local church authorities
Council for the Care of Churches
Victoria and Albert Museum
National Monuments Record Centre
